New music including LCD Soundsystem, Panda Bear, Alice Glass and Sunflower Bean on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued to explore new releases from James Blake, Better Oblivion Community Center and Ladytron on the show this week, while the retro alternative set looked back at album closers from classic ’90s releases, inspired by the odd story of how a 25-year-old Dinosaur Jr. album track suddenly became a top 20 hit in Japan in recent weeks.

New music including Vampire Weekend, Jenny Lewis, Better Oblivion Community Center and Florence and The Machine on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

Along with all the fresh singles, I delved deeper into recent albums from Maggie Rogers, Alice Merton, James Blake and Sharon Van Etten on the show this week, while the retro alternative set traveled back to 1994 for some deep cuts from that year’s biggest albums (along with a couple hit singles as well!).

New music including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sleeper, Broken Bells and Gesaffelstein on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued to explore recent albums from Smashing Pumpkins, Kurt Vile and The 1975 on the show this week, while the retro alternative set honored the late Pete Shelley with a block of Buzzcocks and solo classics from the brilliant punk-era songwriter, along with tracks by artists who attended the infamous 1976 Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall Sex Pistols show organized by Shelley and Howard Devoto and who later went on to form bands inspired by the do-it-yourself ethos of the punk scene (The Smiths, Joy Division, The Fall).

New music including Grimes, Little Dragon, Arctic Monkeys and The Decemberists on this week’s West Of The Fields podcast

I continued exploring recent albums from The 1975, Robyn, Smashing Pumpkins and Miya Folick on the show this week, while the retro alternative set peered into the future of retro with a look back at 2009, which hits the decade-old mark next year and thus becomes eligible for the retro alternative set under my silly, made-up, self-imposed rules 😀
